Dating

So Mr. M/E and I grew tired of sitting on our arses at home on the weekends.

"Let's DO something!!"

And with that we shook off some of the winter blahs fog we have been under for months now and made plans.  Feels like we're dating again!

One Saturday night back in January, we went to a Grapes of Wrath/Northern Pikes concert at the Casino Showlounge.  Fantastic show.  Both bands are circa 1980s/1990s, Canadian and still touring.  And still rocking the skinny jeans.  One band from British Columbia, the other from Saskatchewan.

I can completely relate to this Grapes song growing up in a small town:

Favorite Northern Pikes song:

The Casino is one of the few places where you can meet the performers after the show in the main lounge, so of course we did.

                                           Grapes of Wrath

A few weekends later, Hubs and I decided to treat ourselves to a Date Day (or, as we joke, a "one-on-one date" if you watch The Bachelor.)

The flowers were nicely blooming in the City Conservatory - a nice reprieve from the horrible winter weather we've experienced for the past 4.5 months.

Later on that afternoon, we went to the park and walked to a high point.

We visited the new Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Science Centre.  I knew da Vinci was smart but he was a genius inventor and creator - both as a scientist and an artist.  The exihibit featured many life-size inventions which would form the basis for later inventions (first model of a bike, a parachute, military tank, car, city planning, etc) as well as drawings, paintings and 3D Animations.

After a nice steak supper at The Keg, we went to see the Symphony.

The highlight of the evening was hearing the 20 year old guest violinist (the guy in the teal shirt below) play the entire violin concerto by memory.  He was amazing - his timing was perfect and he hit every note flawlessly.  I was pleased to see several younger people at the Symphony, I am sure many of his buddies were in the audience cheering him on.   The Guest Conductor was equally as entertaining.  He was about Scott Hamilton's height (around 5'2") and very animated!  He was quite fun to watch.

We are going to see Pride & Prejudice at Globe Theatre in a few weeks and we are also going to the Heart concert during the same week.  My March calendar is filling up (or at least that week anyway!)

Any interesting date plans coming up?

    1. Totally more fun! We don't play tourists enough where we live.

    1. They are a cool band - and they sounded great live! Hubs really wanted to see them and I had heard some songs before the concert, but they completely won me over during the concert. They are nice guys too. Laidback and funny.

  3. Great to get out, especially when you've been home bound for a while. There's something so refreshing about it and you appreciate being home then so much more I think.
The flowers in the conservatory are gorgeous and I love that view from the park.
No date plans here sadly :(
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Exactly - this winter has been particularly brutal so it was so nice to finally get out and not be sequestered at home.

Have a great weekend as well!

  4. Ok this is giving me a kick up the booty to do more at Zellerbach Hall right down the road. A band and a symphony and learning about a genius? Good on you! I always find I only want to do drinks and dinner on our "one-on-ones - (that's hilarious have never heard of that expression) but its so much more rewarding to go and see what's out there in the world!

  5. Wonderful ideas for dates with your hubs. The best one I think is just planning ahead like you have and then you are all set up. I love how you get to see so many different music concerts. Can't wait to hear about Heart! Have a good weekend!

    1. I will definitely post about the Heart concert! Can't wait for that.

I love live music and it seems like we are getting more and more good concerts around here....before we would always have to travel to a larger centre to see a concert (sometimes we still do) but it's great that musicians are coming here now.

I really think the Stones had a huge part to play in that -- they did two sold-out concerts here back in 2006, which were really successful. Ever since then, more popular musicians have come here to give concerts because people will go to them.

      Have a good one!

  6. It's a relief and great fun to get out during our cold Canadian winter. I've been going out lately and just have fun after just staying indoors most of the time. But I still miss my walks outside. Ii can't do that yet because our sidewalks are still icy. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I agree, isn't it wonderful to go out? Our sidewalks are still icy here too, the snow is starting to melt a little but we still drive everywhere. Looking forward to spring big-time!

  7. You and your husband enjoy the same types of things we like to do. Can't wait to hear about "Pride and Prejudice"--my all time favorite book but I have never seen a play of it. I did see "Jane Eyre" the musical a few years back and that was incredible. We have a very busy March ahead of us but most of our plans involve other people (going away parties, wedding showers, etc) so not any date nights are planned yet. Our date nights in March will probably be at home recuperating from everything else...so romantic!

    1. ha! Have fun! :)

Globe Theatre does wonderful productions - it's a smaller theatre based on the original Globe Theatre (performances done in-the-round) - and it's amazing what the productions are able to achieve. Really looking forward to it, we've seen some great shows in the past.

  8. Good on you for getting out and about - I think it's the perfect antidote to the awful weather. I've just returned from Amsterdam which was great fun. You must tell us in Great Detail about the Heart concert. Jealous!
